Paediatric ESRD

  • Paediatric Renal Replacement Therapy (RRT) refers to patients under the age of 20 years receiving renal replacement therapy.
  • The overall RRT incidence rate for paediatric patients less than 20 years old was 42 per million age related population (pmarp) in 2005 and 77 pmarp in 2014.

  • According to Figure 5, PD was the first modality of dialysis in about two thirds (63%) of patients in 2013. However data for 2014 showed that HD was the first modality of dialysis in about 55% of patients compared to 44% for PD

  • The commonest type of renal transplant done in children over the last 5 years was cadaveric transplant accounting for 54%
